# Kanaeru app tools

> The tools the Kanaeru client server gives Codex and Claude.

`https://api.kanaeru.ai/mcp/client` is built for apps such as Codex and Claude. Work still runs on each session's own machine and runtime. The chat app only reads and steers it.

| Tool | Description |

| `kanaeru_open` | Open the Kanaeru interface inside the host app |
| `kanaeru_list_conversations` | List your conversations |
| `kanaeru_list_sessions` | List the sessions in one conversation, with the machine and runtime each runs on |
| `kanaeru_list_session_messages` | Read the messages of one session |
| `kanaeru_send_message` | Send a message to one session. It runs on that session's machine, runtime, model, and effort |
| `kanaeru_wait_for_response` | Wait briefly (up to 25 seconds) for the reply to a message you sent. Call it again while the reply is still streaming |
| `kanaeru_prepare_question_round` | Load the questions from Kana's latest message, with stable answer IDs |
| `kanaeru_answer_question_round` | Answer a whole question round at once, so the session continues |
| `kanaeru_list_artifacts` | List the blueprints for one outcome |
| `kanaeru_open_artifact` | Open one blueprint in its rendered view |
| `kanaeru_export_blueprint` | Export a blueprint as a portable `.kanaeru-blueprint` file |
| `kanaeru_open_blueprint_file` | View or edit a portable blueprint file. Saving doesn't change or approve the live blueprint |
| `kanaeru_open_settings` | Set whether the host follows a session's responses |
| `kanaeru_choose_session` | Pick a session from a form. Shown only to clients that support form elicitation and a recent enough MCP protocol version |

The client server can also notify the host when a session needs input, when a session finishes, and when a blueprint changes.
